A couple of weeks ago, after our Spring Break, I decided to bring some plant cuttings to school.
I set up a drawing table.
I encouraged looking at the colours, shapes, size and lines of each plant.
Magnifying glasses were provided if they wanted a closer look.
Here are a few sketches.
The drawings were mounted on paper frames for others to appreciate.
Week two and it was time to replace the plant clippings,
they were getting droopy and losing their colour.
I brought in flowering plants and added more variety of coloured pencils.
What a fun activity! I always love to see nature drawing, because you never know what the child will notice about the item in question and each drawing comes out highlighting something new!
ReplyDeleteI've discovered that some of the children I see are very hesitant about drawing, this activity has encouraged them to look at parts of their drawing not the whole.
DeleteThese sketches turned out wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThanks Deborah.
DeleteI see you managed to post it on FB - yay it's working again.
Kids just don't take time to enjoy nature the way they should--this is a great activity to inspire them to do that a little more. A very creative idea!

With busy lives and enrolling children in so many activities, I feel, that we don't necessarily slow down enough to let the children look at nature.
DeleteThanks for leaving a comment.
