Jello Eggs

Going through my Easter bins I found these old egg shaped jello molds.
I forgot that the recipe needed to be modified,
I added too much water.
This is the twins first experience with jello so they were a little apprehensive.
Using one finger to poke at it, discovering the texture and movement.
Quickly starting to grab it in their hand and watch it slide off.
Unfortunately, and I predicted it, they started shaking their hand to get the jello off.
Soon I was busy cleaning it off the floor and walls.
A quick switch and I put them in the bath tub taking any restrictions away.
A bonus was the tub toys that were waiting.
Scooping, pouring, grabbing, spreading and flicking was no problem in the tub.
When they were done it was easy to clean up and then give them a bath.

Dyeing Eggs with Toddlers

How do you safely dye eggs with toddlers?
I've done this method before when there was a parent for each child
so how do you I make it safe for my three?
The main change was to replace shaving cream with cool whip.
And I diluted the food colouring so their hands wouldn't be totally dyed.
For the twins this was all about discovery.
 The texture and the taste
and trying to make the egg move.
Of course putting them in the same chairs that they eat, with their bibs on may have sent a message that it was time to eat.  I couldn't think of any other way to do this without having it all over the house.  And unfortunately it was a rainy day so we couldn't do it outside.
Here are the eggs before the cool whip was washed off.
The colour isn't as bright since the food colouring had been diluted with water.  But it doesn't matter as the process was so much fun.

More Plastic Egg Play

Today I brought out the plastic eggs again
because the twins parents had these flat cardboard boxes that are perfect as ramps.
Love watching their excitement and
figuring out what happens when she let's go of the egg.
Doesn't matter how high up they let go of the egg it will still roll down.
Our crawler found another way to play with the eggs.
Oh how they love to dump!

What's in the Tub Tuesday?

Plastic eggs.
Some match but most don't.
They are eggs that I have accumulated over the years.
The large plastic spoons we used before.
Introducing Jelly Bean Stew song to the twins and reinforcing it for the Older one.
Love these big egg cartons.
I thought we would use them for walking on but they worked great to practice transferring skills.
She walks so much more confidently in just one month than the last time we used the spoons.
I added baskets for them to fill and carry.

Jelly Bean Stew

Jelly beans, one of my favourite candies, was a focus this past week.
I brought a pot full of plastic shaped jelly beans for the little one to play with.
Mmmm making stew for two.
Practicing our colours as we sing.
At the end of the week we tasted real jelly beans.

First Play Dough

My grand daughter is just over a year old and I've been wondering which play dough recipe would be best to offer her to play with,
knowing at this age she will probably attempt to eat it.
So I had been looking up edible dough recipes when I realized I could just give her some of the sugar cookie dough that I was using to make Easter cookies.
It was perfect and she surprised me by not putting any in her mouth-
- wasn't even interested.
I was using my big rolling pin and she wanted to try it so I dug out a smaller one for her which she loved.
I enjoyed watching her try to use it a variety of ways.
Which led me to pull out a few more tools for her.
I had picked up an inexpensive set of cookie cutters at the dollar store to keep at her house.
We were busy playing for almost a half an hour.

A few days later it was time to decorate the cookies so I thought if the dough worked great for her then maybe the icing would be fun to use as finger paint.
It was a hit.
And again I was surprised she didn't put it in her mouth.
(She doesn't take after her Nana for a sweet tooth)
She wasn't impressed when I dabbed some on her nose.
