Our Final Buddy Project

Our final get together with our grade 6/7 big buddies was last week

and we designed our own puzzle.

I picked up the puzzle at a thrift store and taped it together on the picture side

so it could be numbered and moved easily from classroom to classroom.

The tape was removed when we were ready to start.

We decided to do the puzzle about the alphabet

so each buddy pair was given one piece with the letter written on the back.

They coloured the piece anyway they wanted.

Then they used a sharpie to print their letter on the piece.

So many pieces!

There are 26 for each letter of the alphabet plus pieces that make up the border.

It was a challenge putting it together since the pictures 

didn't give us clues.

But we worked on it for a bit and got a few pieces together.

Then we had to leave for our big buddies to finish.

It has now been re-taped and is hanging on a bulletin board in the hallway.

Fingerpainting the Ocean

I had some blue jello in the fridge that has been there for a long time

so we made it into fingerpaint.

At first the children wanted to use the spoon to spread the jello around,

I realized then that I haven't been offering enough art sensory activities

that just require their hands.

I removed the bowl and spoon and modeled using my fingers

and that seemed to give them the nudge they needed

to do it too.

Loved seeing them get their whole hand into the action.

I had added white glue to the jello so the children could add paper fish

and shaped sequins to their pictures.

Under the Ocean

Our corner has been turned into a little piece of the ocean.

What makes it special is a light that makes it look like we are under the water.

It looks even better with our classroom lights off.

Bubble Blow Painting

This week I invited the families to paint with coloured bubbles.

The bubble juice was coloured with food colouring and placed

in old muffin tins.

The children were encouraged to blow bubbles pointing at the easels.

The first challenge was to get enough bubble juice on the wand.

The parents were wonderful models on how to make it work.

 I enjoyed watching this father and son begin.

The father guided the wand into the bubble juice then up for his son to blow.

After trying it he handed the wand to his son to try it on his own.

A fun experience that they shared together.

By the end of each day we had lots of bubble prints on paper and

the table top was wonderfully coloured too.

But since it is soap it washes off.

We have been playing with bubble outside

so the children loved doing this activity

inside.

Butterfly Release

Our butterflies were ready to be released.

So we went to our grand friends to share the experience 

with them.

As soon as we opened the containers some of the butterflies 

flew out,

and up!

But the butterflies seemed to be happy to stay on the oranges

for a little while.

Long enough to walk around to share with our grand friends.
