Build a Bridge for Billy Goats

Extending on our Monet bridge building I introduced The Three Billy Goats Gruff story.

The story scene was set with brown for the area the goats had already eaten, green for the new pasture and a blue strip for the river.

The children were encouraged to build a bridge, for the goats to cross over the river, using a variety of blocks provided.

One of the hardest parts of my job is sitting back and watching
the children solve a problem.
It's easy to step in and suggest ideas.
But allowing them to try a variety of ways, trial and error,
pondering why it won't work and what to do next
will guide them in future problem solving.
Many of the children did not know the story so either
they read it themselves, with a grown up, or heard it at story time.
Then some of them retold and acted out the story using the props.

I'll have to remember to tell this story the next time we are at the creek with bridges.
