June Treasure Basket - Dress Up

This month's treasure basket I decided to bring some dress up clothes and accessories.
She had fun pulling each item out of the bag and trying some on.
Like butterfly wings,
a puppy dog cape,
 a tutu,
glasses (because she has been quite interested in mine),
 construction worker equipment
(like dad might use at his work)
and a little red riding hood cape (because we have been reading that story).
There is more in the basket but she didn't show interest in playing with it.
She was most interested in the doctor's bag and taking out all the equipment inside.

In the two weeks since bringing this basket she hasn't shown much interested, other than the medical bag, but it is now available for her to discover as her interest grows.

Day 5 Final Day of Literacy Week

Today our school showed their spirit by dressing as storybook characters.
I, the Mad Hatter, was joined by Pete the Cat.
Walking down the hall we met Max and one of the Wild Things.
Our Parent Advisory Council organized a book swap.
They asked families to clear out their unwanted books and donate them.
Then this morning classes were welcome to come and shop.
You paid by donation.
If you didn't have money but really wanted a book you
still got one.
The swap was great for getting books into the hands of the children.
And any money donated is being given to a great organization that helps
families with sick children called Y.A.N.A.
You Are Not Alone

Hope your week was as full as ours.
Happy reading.

Being Penguins

     jan 17 031 b
I like costumes and I have quite a few miscellaneous pieces at home.  They
come in handy for many opportunities.  Like this week when we are talking
about penguins.

I brought in my tuxedo tails for the children to try on to ‘be penguins’.  They
loved it.  The sleeves were so long that when they flapped their arms it looked
like wings.

Of course I had to give it a try.

Cat in the Hat

We have been having a lot of fun with Dr Seuss and his popular book
The Cat in the Hat.
Families have been posing for pictures dressed as the Cat in the Hat and Thing 1 or 2.
We created a bulletin board of our pictures for everyone to enjoy.
This is my favourite picture of Thing 1.
Even Pete got in out the fun.
We made hats but not to wear.
The children grated red chalk to glue on to the paper hat cutouts.
Some parents helped glue the lines.
While others were free to design their own patterns.
When they sprinkled the chalk dust on to the glue, it stuck.
But using those little graters was the main focus for the kids.
Here are a few of our hats.
