Magnetic Slime

To extend on our experience with the magnetic sand we were given

I decided to add it to our slime recipe.

My slime recipe is just white glue and Seventh Generation laundry detergent.

I didn't measure the sand as I added but went on the stiffness.

I have two really powerful magnets that work well to make the slime move.

The children were tentative at first but some reached right in with whole hands

and hearts.

Here is a photo story of one child's experience.

She uses her whole body, no sitting, to experiment.

Up, down, in and out she shows no hesitation for this

sensory experience.

Although she needed a bit of help from mom to get it all off when she was done.

We discovered that when it sits over night with one of the magnets in it,

that it separates.

The magnet is attracting all the magnetite to it leaving the glue and detergent

pooling on the sides.

The families are so intrigued.

We've made a second batch in the week we have played with it.

The more you play with it the less sticky it becomes.

Book Play - Dear Zoo

 Dear Zoo by Rod Campbell was recommended by one of our parents

after she and her daughter played with Goodnight Gorilla.

This is one of their favourites.

I found stuffies to go with the play so it was more

attractive to toddlers.

 This family read the story together,

then the children explored the animals.

The little girl found the frog and hopped it on her dad.

Look at the enjoyment that sharing a book together has done for

father and daughter.

But the most wonderful was when she shared the story with me after.

And I caught these friends enjoying the story together.

Flowers and an Award

We were given an award for volunteering at our grand friends Lodge.

With it came a beautiful bouquet of flowers.

Also one of the grown ups that participates in our program bought these 

water colour palettes for us.

We spent a lot of time this week painting pictures.

Flowers and new paints are the perfect duo for creating pieces of art.

Where's the Fire?

Now that we have a fire truck we need to practice our fire fighting skills,

but where?

We built a house from another cardboard box.

Gotta love cardboard boxes.

We used an old orange cheer leader's pom pom for fire.

So much action play.

Day after day.

Transforming Airplane to Fire Truck Part 2

Our next step was to convert our Buffalo search and rescue plane to a fire truck.

The propellers and wings needed to be removed first.

Then we started to paint.

Day 1 and the painting was completed we started to work on the inside.

We added a steering wheel on a table with foot pedals below it

as well as some seats.

Of course a fire hose was a necessity.

Day 2 and I put out materials to help decorate the outside of the truck.

Wheels, ladders and lights were made.

 I attached a bell in lieu of a siren.

I set up an area with information that we received from the fire station

and the clothing fire fighters wear.

Finally we finished with a thank you card for 

fire fighter Jonathan and his crew

that did an awesome job.
