Itsy Bitsy Spider Fun

Bugs!
There are so many different bugs.
Can you guess which one we are playing with here?
Right, it's the Itsy Bitsy Spider.

I taped a large cardboard cylinder to the wall and made a cloud with rain drops from a paper plate and a sun from yellow paper.
The spider is tied to a string, on one end, and a pencil on the other.
She loves putting it back in the water spout.

Dad came in to watch and noticed that the tape was already starting to rip away from the wall.
He had an idea to attach the tube to this wooden stand.
It works perfect!
We will be able to use this "tube tree" for other activities in the future.

A Jello Sensory Experience

Buried treasure in jello makes for a fun activity to keep the little one busy while dinner was being made.
She has played with Jello once before but not this much and not with things buried in it.
She is intrigued by how it feels; wet and slippery!
She tries to taste it.
It's hard to grab.
She signs jello with one hand and the colour red with the other
than she digs in to it.
She had a little success picking up just bits of the jello with her fingers I so gave her a spoon to make it easier.
She manages to get a bit more into her mouth.
The spider and other toys, are on the bottom.  Can she dig them out?
Yes, and the spider is coated with jello.
She went on to dig out the rest.
When dinner was ready we put it all back in the container and put it back in the fridge for the next day.

Colour Fun

I surprised the little one with a new toy.
A homemade toy using paint chips from the store.
The paint chips have magnet strips attached to the back so they can stick to the fridge.  (She was quite interested in pulling the magnet strips off).
There are two of each colour so we can eventually work on matching.
But for now we are focusing on the colour names and how to sign each.
In the above picture she is signing 'white'.
She liked the tin can that I brought them in
and she spent a lot of time opening and closing it.
After she had put almost all of them on the fridge she began to take them off again.  One at a time, opening and closing the lid after each addition.
It gave me another opportunity to say the names of the colours as she removed them.  She also worked hard learning how to take the cards off the fridge.
While she was busy playing with the coloured paint chips I made some jello for another activity.
I gave her the empty box and she started to put the paint chips inside of it.
She thought of the idea of putting the cards in the box and followed through with it.  Then she had to figure how to get them out of the box.  Love watching her focus and calm approach at figuring it all out.

Subbing and Fairy Lane

I was asked to sub at one of our StrongStart centres this week
and I was given the choice of opening the centre or holding an outside day.
I decided on an outside day and held it at Fairy Lane since it was close to this centre.
Here are some of the activities that the families participated in.
The silvery ribbons added a nice shine to the wands as well as a soft sound when the children shook them.
We didn't see any fairies but one family thought they may have heard a hummingbird fairy.
A pretend tea party was a must to have in the middle of the Lane.
As well as a set for the Fairies to indulge.
Create your own Fairy.
Created and captured!
Take some time to sit and read a book about Fairies.
I hid 6 doors in the Lane for the families to find but there were many more already there.
Fairy Lane has been official for almost three years.
Some things wear out, like the dead tree that one of our signs is
attached to.
I need to call the city.
