What's in the Tub Tuesday?

Week 2 of our sticky wall and I added feathers to the tub.
The girls are becoming quite familiar with tub and are always eager to explore.
How do these things move if I pick them up and drop them.
That is Cs favourite thing to do with every tub.
They do eventually get around to sticking them to the wall.
Sometimes putting them and sometimes peeling them off.
That is one reason a sticky wall is great as it is always changing.
The girls started to explore the feathers a little closer.
Discovering how they feel.
That they tickle when rubbed on their nose or face.
They discovered that a feather is very light and they may not feel it on their head.
To finish our feather play off for the day we sang Two Little Dickie Birds.
What could we add to the sticky wall next week?
Any ideas?

What's in the Tub Tuesday?

Dry instant mashed potatoes was in the tub this week.
The oldest grand daughter got to play with it first.
She watched as I poured it into the tub.
It looked like snow falling.
The the twins woke up and joined in the exploration.
Of course one or two of them had to taste it.
There was lots of pinching, grabbing and releasing.
Making it snow all over!
But having it fall on the floor gave them another experience, how does it feel on their feet?
Also gave them more exercise of getting up and down.
If they started to crawl and away I was busy sweeping up after them.
Overall it was a fun experience to do and watch.

Needle Felted Carrots

Last week I attended a needle felting class to learn how to make fruits and vegetables.
The teacher had samples of carrots, beets, pears, and a pumpkin.
We started learning a carrot and I was so excited by how easy it was that I decided to make a little garden of them for my grand daughter.
She loves them.
We found a couple of rabbits for her to feed, instead of herself.
The carrots are different sizes as they do take time to make and I wanted to get 5 done during class time.
So one for her and
one for the rabbit.
She harvested all the carrots with no problem until she reached the last one.
It was stuck in the ground and she pulled and pulled
but it wouldn't come up.
She let go and signed for help.
I showed her how to use two hands.
One to hold the container in place and the other to pull the carrot.
Yay it worked!
When she was finished feeding herself and the rabbit she put all the carrots back into the garden.
Ready for another picking tomorrow.

Treasure Basket - Rings

For Christmas I made my granddaughter a Treasure Basket.
A Treasure Basket is a container filled with things you would find around your house or at a thrift store.
The basket provides your child with an opportunity to discover and explore.
This first treasure basket contained a stubby paper towel holder, that I found at a thrift store, and a variety of rings.
The rings are made of plastic or wood or metal.
And there are two of each.
She spent sometime playing and trying out different ways to handle the rings
and the stubby holder.
It turns out that it is a great instrument for banging and swinging around.

She even discovered that some of the rings make a great musical instrument.
Each month I will change the items in the basket.
This will allow new explorations but also limit how many play things she has in her home.
