Chinese New Year Play

The children entered the classroom this week with an invitation
around Chinese New Year.
In the house area they found chopsticks with
a steamer full of dumplings.
A little decoration on our snack table.
But the most fun was at the play dough table.

Easy Fortune Cookies

I found an easy recipe for fortune cookies to make with children
from here.
I made a photo recipe page for the families to follow.
The parents were asked to write a fortune for their child's cookie.
The children followed the photos and made their own cookie.
Pie dough makes this so easy and inexpensive.
With one crust we made 20 cookies.

Rooster Art

While searching for art activities for the Year of the Rooster
I came across this idea for fork painting.
How do we use a fork to paint?
With the tips?
On the side?
On the back?
This art became a series of experiments.

These two girls approached their art side by side
but in different ways and ended looking very individual.

Chinese Character Copying

I set up an invitation to explore copying characters
from the Chinese Zodiac.
I love when a parent is involved and sharing their child's joy of learning.

One child's attempt is pretty impressive.

Here are a few others that I spotted.
Two of the pages to copy from are Chinese characters,
two other pages are pictures of the animals.
