StoryWalk - A Color of His Own

Yesterday when we celebrated St. Patrick's Day in the forest
we also did another StoryWalk.
I picked the book by Leo Lionni called "A Color of His Own".
I read this book several times at school during the past week.
So today the children attempted to read the story themselves.
Trying to remember how it went by looking at the pictures.
The story is about a chameleon who wants to have his own colour
like all other animals.
I created a see through chameleon for each child to use to help
find colours.
Here's a splattered chameleon,
a red chameleon,
green grassy chameleons,
and muddy chameleons.
As we continued on the StoryWalk reading the pages the children
used their chameleon on each page.
They took their chameleons home to continue to find
colours and patterns.

St Patrick's Day in the Forest

We spent the whole morning in the forest.
It was very cool when we started but the sun soon warmed us.

Visiting the Leprechaun Tree.
Searching behind all the doors looking for a Leprechaun
or his gold.
Then we found a gold pot behind one of the doors.
And went searching farther for the gold.
We put the rocks in the pot and added Magic Vinegar.
It created a wonderful fizz.
Which revealed gold coins.
Our hands were getting cold so I opened up my
cooler bag to show them a surprise.
I brought my bed warmers that I microwaved at home,
wrapped in a towel and put them in the insulated bag.
Oh it felt so good on our hands.
Thanks to Colleen for this idea.
We finished with a snack and story.
Happy St. Patrick's Day.

Rainbow Pancakes for Snack

Today the children made their own pancakes.
Layering colours from the rainbow one on top of the other.
 Red,
yellow, orange,
green, blue
and purple.
I was concerned about the children spooning the batter into the pan
and touching the hot sides.
So I draped a small cloth over the area
and we had no burns.
For most children this was the first time to use a flipper.
Almost all gone except for the red.
So they made some red pancakes.
A finished rainbow.
It was big so we cut it in half to share with his sister.
"Tasty" was a word I heard to describe the pancake.
They were like works of art.
