Buddies Share Orange Shirt Day

Last week our school participated in Orange Shirt Day recognizing the harm the residential school system did to children's sense of self-esteem and well-being, and as an affirmation of our commitment to ensure that everyone around us matters.
"Every Child Matters"
is the message that we will convey to all our children.
We started with our big buddies.
After sharing Phylis's story and why we wear orange
the children were asked to draw pictures of themselves.
This was our first time together this school year so this activity gave the buddies
an opportunity to learn a little bit about each other.
And for some of the oldest and youngest students in our school to become comfortable together.
Once they finished their pictures they hung them on a bulletin board in the hallway.
The whole school can enjoy our board and add their own picture.
Looking forward to another year of buddying with Ms Smith's class.

  2. Dear Maureen,

Hello! it was fun to draw/color with strongstart, I didn't have a buddy during the time but it was still fun!. I really hope we do more fun projects with strongstart because I had a lot of fun hanging out with you guys. the funniest part was when a stnkbug came along and was getting really close so we pushed it away trying not to make it stink, hilarious!
    have a fantastic day.

    sincerely,
    Journey

    1. I'm glad you enjoyed our get together even though you didn't have your own buddy. I hope we will have more StrongStart families attend for our next get together. And I noticed that there are a lot of stinky bugs in our school this year.

  7. Dear Maureen,
I had a lot of fun at the first buddy class with StrongStart. I enjoyed the art work that I did with my buddy and the StrongStart kids. I didn't know the song we did--it was brand new to me. But I still enjoyed doing the parachute.

That was a very fun buddy class! I especially enjoyed the songs we sang with the parachute, that was awesome. But when my friend and I were putting up all those self portraits, boy did my arms hurt! I excitedly await the next time we get to play with our little buddies!
