Exploring the Playground

Every morning we take the girls for a long walk.  Most days we pass by this big, beautiful playground.
The older one always wants to stop and play.
Opa and I weren't quite ready to try it with the twins till this past week.
For a couple of reasons we held back.
One they are not walking yet so how would they like being on the ground but mainly because with three they would go in all directions.
The first visit we let them explore a little then had a break by putting them together in this swing.
On the second visit they were more adventurous.
When we needed a little break we gathered them together on this merry go round.
It will be exciting to watch as they grow and become more confident each time we visit.

I'll Fill It Myself

Last week I cleaned out the Little One's sensory bin and left it empty till I arrived this week.
Well before I left last week the Little One and I were playing at home.
I was in the kitchen and she disappeared into the bedrooms.
I realized it was awfully quiet in the bedroom so I went in to check.
I found her inside the tub of the sensory table.
She was having a great time sitting on the edge (except that the mirror started falling on her).
I quickly slipped that down behind and she went on playing with her baby.
This was great play for her and she worked hard to climb into the tub so I let her continue.
Getting out takes a lot more courage and manoeuvring.
It also takes courage to ask for help too.
It's a self motivating physical development climber.
I would never have thought of this!

A New Toy

Our Parent Advisory Council had grant money that the teachers could use to purchase
items for the gym.
I couldn't think of anything else we needed for the gym but I had seen
this toy on the Kodo site.
It's called a Half Round and it's four feet long.
I placed it on the carpet a couple of weeks ago and watched how the children
and their parents interacted with it.

The infant and toddlers played in and on it.
Practicing crawling across it.
Being encouraged to stand beside it.
And climbing over it.

The older children figured out they could crawl through it.
Although I was surprised they could but
they made it through in doing the fire fighter crawl.

They also figured out how to rock it like a boat.
We added an alligator so they could scream when we sang
Row, Row, Row Your Boat.

As the days went by they became more comfortable with it.
Using their bodies to stand on it,
 slide across it,
and just be comfortable.
